The first national strike ballot of Royal Mail workers since 2009 could go ahead by September after 500 Communication Workers Union (CWU) representatives voted unanimously for the move.
At a time when the Direct Mail channel needs all the support it can get in order to justify its inclusion in the marketing mix, we have the ‘delivery’ monopoly’s staff readying themselves for mass walk outs and severe disruption to mail delivery services.
Never really got my head round the Union’s determination to weaken the appeal of putting valuable Marketing budget into Direct Mail (their bread & butter)..
The rumored threats of posties refusing to deliver Downstream Access (DSA) mail from the likes of TNT Post & UK Mail, just about sums up the lack of empathy the unions have with their customers. DSA mail accounts for circa 80% of all Royal Mail letters business – FACT! It’s not going away either, so get on with building a Letters business around the Access model; make it attractive, efficient and profitable. We can then look forward to restoring clients faith in Direct Mail.
